BECOME A TUTOR

Graduate Students

The Writing Center’s graduate tutor population is comprised entirely of English graduate assistants. Graduate assistants in the English department can be assigned to the Writing Center as a part of their contractual assignment. For any information regarding graduate tutor positions for graduate students outside of the English department, please contact the Writing Center direct via the Writing Center email, calling the Writing Center, or coming by our office.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students who are interested in holding a paid tutoring position in the Writing Center are invited to apply for a position through the student employment portal. Undergraduate tutors are expected to participate in a paid training period where they will observe other tutors and operate as a co-tutor alongside current Writing Center staff. Potential undergraduate tutor candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of and ability to talk about common conventions of academic writing. It’s strongly recommended that potential candidates have completed the first-year composition sequence (ENGL 101 & 102). For any questions or further information, please contact the Writing Center direct via the Writing Center email, calling the Writing Center, or coming by our office.
