Inclement Weather Policy
Main Content
In the case of inclement weather:
Recognizing that many of our students walk to and around campus or drive from various distances around Southern Illinois, the writing center responds to inclement weather in the best interest of our students and our staff. This may include temporary closure, canceling appointments, or moving appointments into an online session.
If SIUC cancels classes due to weather:
- The writing center will remain open and will attempt to honor any appointments scheduled. However, if the weather affects road and walking conditions, we may move appointments online. You will receive an email if your appointment is affected.
If SIUC closes the university:
- In some cases, the university will declare a complete closure, which includes all university offices. In this case, the writing center will also close, and all appointments on that day will be canceled or rescheduled. You will receive an email if your appointment is affected.
If your appointment is moved online due to weather:
- You will receive an email from write@siu.edu notifying you of this change. Your appointment will remain at the same time and with the same consultant. To access your online appointment, look for the "Inclement Weather Schedule" on our online scheduling system. For more information about online appointments, please visit our page about writing consultations. If you are unsure of how to join your online appointment, please watch this video.
